Picked this up last Sunday on the garage of the transportation company. Bought it many months ago, but only now I was able to hire a company to transport it for me ( it was in another state, really far from where I am ). This brand Pioneer was a national brand, their sets had the distinctive characteristic of having a built-in voltage stabilizer ( see picture of the panel ). This set must be from the late 50's I have never seen a Pioneer set this old before, I had only seen the 1964 model.

Back cover is no longer the original one and I have no clue to what the original looked like. They broke the plastic cup during transportation, fortunately the CRT was not necked. The TV was kind of canibalized, there's no sign of the loudspeaker. But I am really pleased, it is a pretty rare set and I find it quite good looking.

Cool set!:thmbsp:

What kind of voltage regulation does it have? Automatic (voltage regulating power transformer, series regulation like some 6AC7 tube based supplies), or manual voltage regulation (look at the voltage gauge and turn a line rheostat)?

I think it is manual, I remember when I was very little my grandmother had her TV plugged to a voltage regulator, I think those things were all manual. It was in the early 80's and many people here still used those devices connected to their TV sets.

Neat. I use plug in regulators here currently (VRT/saturable reactor line isolation transformers). Whenever I run 2-3 tube color sets it draws enough current to sag line voltage and cause under-scan (some near by industry also sags the line sometimes), and the transformers fix that.

Some tube Dumonts and early SS color Zenith and Motorola sets used those same regulating transformers in the original design.

Really nice set. It's cool how there's a bridge with (I'm guessing) the high voltage stuff up there.
