In June of 2014, my wife and I visited The Ford Museum in Dearborn. MI. They had several old color console TVs running. They had mounted flat screens behind the CRT mask. I complained that it wasn't very realistic especially since the fit of the flat screen was poor and the effect just looked fake.

Yesterday, my wife and I visited the National Center For Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta, GA. In the first room you entered they had three stacks of old table model TVs. Each stack contained four TVs. The screens said, "Change Channel." When you changed the channel, you got another 30-60 second video clip. They even simulated a blank screen as the new channel appeared. One of the TVs even had the vertical hold roll for one frame when you switched channels. Talk about realistic looking. In another room they had more stacks of TVs with one of them showing color. Of course, the TV was an original B&W, but the color picture rendered looked just like a late 50s vintage color TVs.

It is very impressive, both from the standpoint of the presentation and the material presented.

The Henry Ford museum has one of those Zenith ultra modern consoles on display at the Henry Ford museum, running with a real CRT and I could hear the high voltage. I got all excited thinking it was a 9-160 System 3 set, peeked in the back and was appalled. They had yanked the entire chassis out and replaced it with a chassis from a 2000's set.
