WELL.

That was a smart decision~

Why have one color roundy when you can have TWO. I'll have more TV in my room then personal living space but hey why not.

Just won this on eBay after sweating bullets for that last agonizing hour.

Really nice case, no UHF so I'm guessing it's a 1962 or 1963 set if I have my dates correct on that. This appears to also be the "HiFi" color roundy with the Tone controls above the pencil box controls.

Custom glass top thats cut and fit to the set it self, and it appears to be pretty close to normal functionality. Supposedly has a really low hours Rauland CRT, which has no cataract.

This came from the same seller that was selling that Porthole Phono combo that was floating around Craigslist for awhile locally.

I'll post more pictures once the set is in my possession and I can take a good, long meditative look at it.

Well that sure is pretty. I like the custom glass top!

Nice that the phosphor matches the bezel.

An issue that most of us seem to face. But it's worth it :D

Congratulations and looking forward to seeing more of this set.

+1

I've got a CTC-7 and a CTC-15 in the middle of my living room. Need to find a permanent place to display them.

Not the best purchase I've made, but it seems to have a lot of hope.

I don't know, the Tuner only partially works on this set, but it fades out and away after awhile. I copied the A/V mod Electronic M performed on my other Roundy, so I can use it.

Convergence is a little off, simply because I am not good at setting it at all yet. Still learning how to perfect that skill.

Vertical is decent.

Horizontal is good.

Picture Tube is bright and very sharp.

Colors are okay. I think the tube that decodes color is weak. Once it warms up a little, color pops right in and looks good.

Flyback is clean, and makes no unusual smells or noises. No arcing or anything.

Besides the flaws, the set works like this, and is completely original, which that alone I think is pretty cool. I'm going to start changing capacitors after I get my other set in order first. One color at a time. This can be watched as is, but I won't ever leave it unattended.

I will state; The picture is not nearly as crisp or bright when it's being fed an A/V signal versus the signal from the internal tuber. Before the tuber kicked the bucket, I did get to see how it looked and it was pretty crisp.

Nice! I sure wouldn't mind picking a roundy up. It'd have to be a table model though, no space for console's.

Run it on a varaic at slightly reduced voltage if ya want to use it 'as is'. Less stress on the components and most variacs are fused, so extra safety:thmbsp:

Well. Made some progress tonight on it. It had a couple bumble bee capacitors in it, I went ahead and deleted them with Orange Drops, and it had a couple others that looked questionable to I changed them too.

Still a couple unusual value bumble bee capacitors living on the convergence adjustment panel but those are easy as pie to replace. Just remove the back and there they are!

I ended up having to do the A/V mod. I poked and prodded the tuner section for a couple hours today, and I can't get it to adjust at all, or work remotely well. Seems to be a zenith sickness.

I'm gonna change the electrolytic capacitors next and go from there.

Nice! I sure could use a nice old color console like that in my room.

Very nice find! I've been unable to find a zenith roundy around my home. RCAs seem to be the only ones around here. Cool diagonal controls!

I live St. Louis, MO. You will see 70s-80s sets, but no 50s-60s color sets.

Whats wrong with the tuner ? Those are the best & most repairable
tuners built. Should be able to fix it.

Is that a 29JC20? If it is, then you just scored Zenith's first consumer color chassis....Quite a rarity.

The one in my basement I showed you is a 29JC20, and I adapted it's AV mod to the set I sold you....That mod may have come full circle.

25LC30. I wish it was that set in your basement! I love blonde wood.

One thing I don't know if you've ever noticed, these sets could do with a Pre-Amp for the A/V mod. I took the time and got the tuner to work better today, and the picture is WAY brighter.

Are the convergence clovers assemblies swap-able? I want to know if the newer red, green and blue covers will swap in place of the older style ones. Mine is held together by a couple zip ties, and I located a more modern one that's red green and blue, like in my 25MC33 set.

As long as it is from a roundy (some rect zeniths used smaller RGB clovers) it likely will work. I likely have a Zenith factory schematic, and possibly a full manual for your chassis that I could find and copy for you after the ETF meet this weekend.

I kinda thought it could use a pre-amp, but did not have time to make one.

BTW a word of note: To prolong the life of your CRTs run them at minimum acceptable brightness....If I'm watching in a darkened room I turn them down from day settings to save usable life.
