Electronic M 04-03-2015, 01:45 PM Tube or SS? captainmoody 04-03-2015, 02:31 PM It's a tube set. Assembled in Dec '68. rwagoner 04-03-2015, 11:20 PM My brother-in-law's father built one of those; they watched the moon landing on it in 1969 ... unfortunately gutted it years ago. Only thing left is the tuner. BigDavesTV 04-04-2015, 08:07 AM That's really a nice looking set, good picture too! Can we see some chassis pictures, when you have the time? Good job! captainmoody 04-04-2015, 09:42 AM I will Dave! As soon as I get a better potato camera.. LOL! I have been using a cheapie tablet for the pics.. Once I get a few more repairs done for customers, I will get a good quality digital camera. wa2ise 04-04-2015, 02:03 PM My brother I think still has the wooden cabinet from one of these sets, he probably would be happy to give it to someone who'd come to his place in northern NJ to take it off his hands. http://videokarma.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=186432&d=1428079589 Jon A. 04-05-2015, 04:09 PM I have been using a cheapie tablet for the pics.. Jon A. 04-05-2015, 07:20 PM Many examples of photos taken with the X20 can be seen in Robb's posts in the estate and garage sale finds thread. The camera has a nice retro look too. Don't sell those tablet cameras short; some of them are very good for what they are. My Dopo (Double Power Industries, Ontario, California) 7" Internet tablet has a 1.3-mp front-facing camera that takes very good pictures. I'm using a little better camera app than the one that comes with the tablet (one I downloaded from the Google Play Store), though. However, mine takes very sharp and clear pictures, and I like it. The only thing I don't like about it is there is no viewfinder, so I have to fiddle around a bit to find the object I'm trying to photograph. If the tablet had both front- and rear-facing cameras, however (it doesn't), my problems would be solved; I could use the tablet screen as the viewfinder in that case. DavGoodlin 04-05-2015, 10:38 PM I wonder whose circuits Heathkit modified? Did they get to cherry-pick the best of each like American Motors* did in thier cars? *torqueflite trans, rochester carbs, ford electrics dieseljeep 04-06-2015, 09:46 AM My brother I think still has the wooden cabinet from one of these sets, he probably would be happy to give it to someone who'd come to his place in northern NJ to take it off his hands. http://videokarma.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=186432&d=1428079589 I haven't seen one of those Stewart-Warners in ages. I have never seen one before and this is one great example.:thmbsp: dieseljeep 04-06-2015, 12:03 PM I wonder whose circuits Heathkit modified? IIRC, the transistorized rectangular color set I built in 1975 used RCA's SCR horizontal output. The IF was a unique Heath design, kind of an LC version of a surface-wave IF, completely pre-adjusted and potted as an unadjustable single filter block. Not sure if the remote control section was their design - used multiple parallel tuned circuits driving a bunch of transistors with all the emitters tied together, so they sort of voted on which frequency had the strongest signal. This discriminated against wide band noise, but some metallic objects could produce a pure enough tone to turn the set on. Tim 04-06-2015, 02:58 PM I built a GR-295 with the remote option in 1969 and used it until 1984 when I got a Sony Profeel. The set is long gone but I still have the construction manual. If you want it for postage costs, shoot me a PM. I may also have the remote. centralradio 04-12-2015, 10:15 AM Wow the color looks great. My late sisters boyfriend build one of these sets and lasted up the 90's.He had fun building it and learned alot from it.To bad he junked it about 8 years ago. |
