I picked up this Sony FD-210 from the Goodwill auction for $10, this was Sony's first Watchman model in 1982.

This set has a very substantial, quality feel to it, typical of first generation electronics from that era, the case is however rather thin plastic and unfortunately this one is cracked on the side, I thought it was shipping damage but looking at the auction pictures I can see it was there all along (but described as "scratches) Oh well, for $10 it makes a really nice display set. If it weren't for the crack I'd describe it as near mint, probably spent most of it's life in the bag.

It still works but the picture will Keystone a little bit, pulling in at the bottom (you can just see it in the bottom right of the screen in the picture below), squeezing the case slightly in the middle corrects the problem so it's probably just a loose connection, not going to worry about it for now.

It came with a nifty, simulated Suede carrying bag, a genuine Sony accessory I think, at least it has the Sony logo on it.

Very nice find! The FD-210 was, of course, the very first Watchman model. I have a couple of examples of the follow-up model, the FD-20A. Not exactly sure how the two compare, but the FD-20 is fairly solid, and neither of mine have any major plastic defects, beyond a few scuffs and scratches (I have the silver vinyl carrying case for one of them). Only wish that analog broadcasting hadn't gone away, so I'd have something to watch with them....... :sigh:

You can use a digital converter and broadcast analog TV inside of you home using a Blonder and Tongue Agile Modulator.

Nice set Eric. I have this set too.I like to get the bigger set like the one in the movie "Rain Man" with Dustin Hoffman.
