During shipping, a Videosphere 3240 I purchased was damaged. I know little about these things so I haven't a clue how serious/fixable the damage is.

Here are two photos:

The opening goes across the entirety of the cover's circumference. The plastic seems fragile so I haven't messed with it yet. I anticipate if the TV is held the wrong way, the front cover will fall right off. The TV still turns on and fuzz comes up, so I think the insides are all good.

If anyone could advise me I'd really appreciate it.

It might be a simple fix. I'd try unscrewing the back cover and assessing the condition of that seam. It could be that it screws together and has plastic flanges or snaps that help it stay together...If they are merely knocked off proper placement it likely is an easy fix, but if any plastic is broken it could be harder to impossible depending on the extent of the breakage.

The plastic doesn't look broken, my advice would be to take it apart and see exactly what has happened. I've never worked on one of these so I'm just guessing there's some type of metal framwork that everything's attached to, perhaps it just needs to be realigned.

Thanks for the tips Tom and Eric.

I took off the back cover. Fortunately, no plastic was broken. I tried to align the edges, but could only get one half of the cover to get fully lodged underneath the covering. I was going to post back here asking what to do next, but then I decided to use a little more elbow grease (I was scared to chip the plastic) and the other side went in too. The hardest part was trying to align all the screws in the holes so that they all matched up.

The cover is still not perfectly flush but I assume some gap is unavoidable.

Out of curiosity, what are the meanings of the "H. HOLD" and "V. HOLD" dials on the back? And is the H. HOLD dial supposed to not be able to move?

Also, what do the "HEIGHT" and "AGC" dials do?

I like to know what everything does!

H. hold = horizontal hold if set wrong will get diagonal lines.

V hold = vertical hold if set wrong picture will "roll"

height = vertical height or size adjusts for top to bottom pix size.

AGC = automatic gain control if set wrong may cause snow,
washed out pix, tearing, audio buzz.

The hold controls are usually customer controls. They should move
& protrude out the back. It may be frozen up from age.

If you ever adjust the screwdrive controls such as height use
an insulated screwdriver. Also they break easily so be sure
to go easy on them. I have broke more than a few !

As far as everything goes start with an old book on how to fix TV's.
Learn the B&W TV block diagram, what each stage does & what
happens if not working right. Also get a book on very basic
electronics or better yet a course with labs.

Your welcome.

For an electronic book " Electronics 1-7" was a good
& commonly used book in schools. DO NOT confuse it
with "Electricity 1-7".
Nothing comes to mind for a TV book, there were tons of them.
Start with your library. Also look on e-bay, they cant be much $$.

You can learn a ton on this forum, I fixed TV's near 40 yrs & I
learn something new every day. And dont be afraid of asking
questions, we all knew nothing once.
