View Full Version : Which vintage color TV for the Superb owl? wa2ise 01-23-2014, 07:01 PM http://www.wa2ise.com/radios/sylvaniatv.jpg  sampson159 01-23-2014, 07:26 PM i m thinking ctc15 or zenith chromacolor II 23 inch metal cabinet Jon A. 01-23-2014, 08:51 PM Not that I care about sports, but I would say 19" Quasar Satellite Control. Not sure what years those were made, 1976 was definitely one of them. I have the remote but not the set naturally. zenith2134 01-24-2014, 03:21 PM RCA CTC-97 will come out of hiding. It survived the floods last October in the attic. it's a 19" color from 1980. Had to do a fair amount of work to the chassis, including replacing the delay line, some electrolytics in the horiz and power supply, and resoldering the motherboard extensively. Still have the original ultrasonic remote. This tv and an early 80s G.E. have been some of the biggest dogs to keep working, but both have a really strong tube and a great picture. dtvmcdonald 01-24-2014, 04:47 PM The answer is simple: whichever one can reproduce an all-white picture best, perhaps with some dim whisper of motion on the picture. Doug McDonald RobtWB 01-24-2014, 08:41 PM ... not really vintage @ 2002 date of manufacture, a Sharp 36" crt set, which I have perched atop a heavily padded 82 RCA XL100 console ... amazingly good picture on this 200lb beast ... I'll have both sets running on the satellite ... saves having to activate the PIP if I get bored with the game ... I couldn't care less who will win, but like lots of folks I enjoy some of the commercial breaks ... Ed in Tx 01-25-2014, 11:19 AM Probably on my, ahem,"vintage" 2008 S0NY fluorescent tube LCD set with over 30,000 hours on the clock.. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/tblazed/sony-tv-ala-aub-fin1_zps7ec7090e.jpg rcaman 01-25-2014, 05:00 PM gilligan's island is so much more entertaining stromberg67 01-25-2014, 05:11 PM Going to a party elsewhere, but will catch some of it on the good 'ol CTC-4. DavGoodlin 01-30-2014, 10:28 AM Either of two sets on my bench in the warm basement, on whichever gets its electro-caps replaced first. 1968 Westinghouse Color chassis V2655- long-duration project with a strong GE 19EYP22 1970 Zenith 16" Color chassis 12A10C15 - Recent arrival from member-celebrity Bryan Gadow sampson159 01-30-2014, 05:37 PM dave,do you mean bryan"hollywood"gadow? DavGoodlin 01-31-2014, 10:02 AM Yes, Mr Hollywood, the only local vintage TV rescue agent I know! sampson159 01-31-2014, 04:05 PM having a party?a charity event?need a celebrity at the last minute?book bryan and kim gadow!the gadows are internationally famous and have appeared on television and in publications.for more information contact sampson159 for booking. bgadow 01-31-2014, 10:17 PM :lmao: Who's playing this year-is it the Mighty Ducks vs. the Expos? I get them confused. Maybe, just maybe, I'll warm up the CTC-5 long enough to take a photo. Keep up the good work, Ron-you're earning every bit of that commission I'm giving you :) old_tv_nut 02-02-2014, 05:15 PM Well, I did turn on the CTC-5 (first time in several months), and the dynamic convergence (maybe only red horizontal - hard to tell) is completely gone. Don't want to spend the time chasing it tonight, so this set will be sidelined. Plus, the grayscale tracking has drifted towards purple, and it seems like the sound alignment has gotten buzzy. Get yourself a CTC-5 Super and you may never have to worry about what to do with your free time! snelson903 02-02-2014, 08:04 PM gilligan's island is so much more entertaining i agree Sandy G 02-02-2014, 08:22 PM Lessee.. Who's playin' this year..... Dallas & Washington, right ?!? Seriously, I MIGHT go in & flip on my Porthole for a minute or 2 to say I've done my duty as a Red-Blooded Amurrican... Other than that, Big effin' Woop.. I DO like Peyton, watched him since he was at the U of T... The rest of it... Meh... Ed in Tx 02-02-2014, 08:30 PM Seattle better not run up the score too high or Denver might sue 'em for bullying. egrand 02-02-2014, 10:57 PM That was one of the most boring Super Bowl games ever, so those who didn't watch didn't miss much. I thought even the commercials were boring. I didn't watch it on a vintage tv, but I did catch myself flipping to an old episode of Route 66 a couple of times. ChrisW6ATV 02-02-2014, 10:58 PM The Broncos have been beaten worse in a Superb Owl in the past. #24, specifically. lnx64 02-02-2014, 11:00 PM Yea this game was terrible. I took these pics throughout the game. https://scontent-a-mia.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/t1/1622791_10201509276837880_102599510_n.jpg https://scontent-a-mia.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/t1/q83/s720x720/1005757_10201509432121762_1484478693_n.jpg wa2ise 02-02-2014, 11:53 PM Yeah, that was pretty much a blowout... It looks a lot better in person... http://videokarma.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=181640&stc=1&d=1391406764 Anyway, a shot of my homebrew HDTV setup in an old RCA CTC19 cabinet (the CTC19 chassis long gone), using a large CRT computer monitor in 1080i mode, and hidden inside a Samsung ATSC receiver. |
