Which chassis does this go with (CTC-?), most of the ones I see have clear buttons.

What shall I control with it? Possibilities include my Director 21, Wingate, or the Anderson.

I was looking at that one for my CTC10 but wasn't sure if it was compatible since it's newer.

Closest I can come is your remote is for the CTC-12, 15, 16, 16X, 17, 17X
The CTC-12 transmitter is CRK5A. The transmitter for the CTC-15 thru 17X is CRK6A.

Doesn't exactly pin it down but maybe the #'s & schematics will help.

I assumed the model would be on the circuit board somewhere, but sure enough the inside cover says CRK-6A, 1964, so it's the first one you posted.

I hear that it can be done with a frequency counter hooked up to a microphone. In lieu of that, the oscillators will have to be adjusted a little bit at a time while observing for proper button response.

I did a quick test using that remote on a ctc-9, with a AA battery (I don't know what voltage it takes, and the AA fits where the 4.5V battery I have in the older ctc-9 remote is too small to fit in this remote). The tint-down moves the tint up, the color-down moves the color up, the volume-down moves the channel, the channel moves the volume-up. The tint-up, color-up, and vol-up do nothing. The range is only a few inches from the receiver, but that might be due to the battery.

Here are some specs on the remotes that will explain why they are not interchangeable one a sens a pulse signal and the other does not.

3.6 volt computer batteries are readily available and will fit. They will work on a variety of voltages but 1.5 is not one of them. The frequency can be checked with a bare open probe to a scope or counter. Just hold it in front of the mic opening.
There are a number of production variables that make these a challange. Have worked on several of these lately. There are a number of pitfalls the these old cuties, be careful.

BTW a 9volt battery can make enough drive to arc-over at the element!
