Not sure if this was discussed before.

This is supposedly from a BBC special from 1963. It looks like a videotape to me that was colorized. The BBC didn't go to color until around 1967 or so.

Hopefully, the experts here can chime in and explain what this is.

If it is possible to colorize a videotape, I am amazed with the technology.

Thanks

George

I'm thinkin' filmed in color, then rebroadcast in B/W..Looks too good to be colorized, to me..

In any case, its STILL a wonderful memento of one of the greatest voices of our time.. Cancer stole him from us in '65, IIRC..

Colorized in the 1990s.

Well, whoever did it, they KNEW what they were doing. Most colorisations I've seen look like a 10th grade shop class project...Late '63 ? Things started going HORRIBLY wrong for him shortly after that..

The only hint that it was colorized is that all the colors are subdued - and I don't mean subdued unnaturally, just more like it was the costume designer's choice. But absolutely no bleeding, or color not following the movement of the objects, and doesn't look painted-on like some colorizations.

The ringing to the right of edges is the main video artifact, and is due to the video tape sharp low pass filter.

Colorization has come a long way that's for sure, it looks very authentic.

Nat died in 65 from Lung cancer, he smoked three packs a day according to Wiki, thought it helped give his voice a nice deep tone, he was only 46?
