I know for a fact that unbuilt audio kits from Fisher, Scott, Knight-Kit etc. and kits from Heathkit are worth their weight in gold. Just check out "the Auction Site" for that. 47'Plymouth 06-01-2013, 07:46 AM All I wanted to do is improve my Tv repair skills,by putting together This kit, use the knowledge gained 47'Plymouth 06-01-2013, 07:57 AM Please check out my WTB ad in the classifieds for a 23BP4 Chip Chester 06-01-2013, 09:01 AM Great find. Here's a cabinet recommendation that I think would be appropriate: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12710735&f=PAD%2FpsNotAvailInUS%2FNo Chip 47'Plymouth 06-01-2013, 10:20 AM How would that cabinet work for this kit?...I 'll attending a woodworkers guild Meet,This Monday 3rd and probably will build a new cabinet From scratch of my own design.. Thanks for the suggestion! Jody rld-tv01 06-01-2013, 10:47 AM Heard that some kits are more valuable if left unbuilt. :scratch2: Not sure why, as all you could do with an unbuilt kit is look at the box and not build it? :scratch2: Yea, but if you built it whats the resale value for someone who wants to build it. You already had all the fun. Now its just another old tv for sale. Unbuilt "in the box" you are selling dreams. Richard jmetal88 06-01-2013, 12:56 PM How would that cabinet work for this kit?...I 'll attending a woodworkers guild Meet,This Monday 3rd and probably will build a new cabinet From scratch of my own design.. Thanks for the suggestion! Jody I think that suggestion was supposed to be a joke. A lot of people who think old TVs are worthless turn them into fish tanks, so why not take a fish tank and turn it into an old TV? Tony V 06-01-2013, 05:36 PM If i had one of these kits, i would build it also. After all, its what it was intended for. Sometimes its not about the money. 47'Plymouth 06-01-2013, 06:15 PM I hope to learn to repair TV sets inside and out...I 'll post pics ASAP of the kit,and demo how its built in stages... Jody bgadow 06-01-2013, 10:14 PM Since you don't have a cabinet to work around, you might be able to use some different crts...you would have to keep the deflection angle the same but other things could maybe be worked around. 47'Plymouth 06-02-2013, 10:03 AM Would a 17BP4 work for now, until a correct 23"tube can obtained? Jody mstaton 06-02-2013, 12:11 PM They both have different sockets according to the data on the net. That 17" crt uses a focus coil and I don't think the 23" one does Kevin Kuehn 06-02-2013, 12:18 PM Besides the 17BP4 is 70 degrees deflection, pretty sure the 23BP4 is 110 degrees. For starters you could use a 8YP4 test CRT. [edit] just remembered, I think you'd need a socket adapter when using the 8YP4 universal 110 degree test CRT. AiboPet 06-02-2013, 01:02 PM Silly question (I think)...but would the electrolytics still go bad in an unbuilt kit? I had heard it was time as well as operation that dries up electrolytics. I've heard of so many TVs that were fine the last time they ran, and then were stored for so many years, and then had all the various vertical, horizontal problems that come with bad caps. trojanrabbit 06-02-2013, 01:19 PM Not a silly question at all. An electrolytic will degrade if left unused, but can be brought back by "re-forming" it - slowly increasing voltage across the cap until the specified working voltage is reached. A decades-old electrolytic has a good chance of being dried out, whether it was used or not. Re-forming won't bring those back. If I were to find an old kit and build it, I doubt I'd use any electrolytics or paper caps in it. 47'Plymouth 06-02-2013, 01:39 PM Well it's not put together yet; I 'm looking at a temporary Fix until the correct CRT 23BP4...can be located and purchased Preferably a NIB,NOS CRT see if ya'll can find me one!....Jody 47'Plymouth 06-02-2013, 01:44 PM Well it's not put together yet; I 'm looking at a temporary Fix until the correct CRT 23BP4...can be located and purchased Preferably a NIB,NOS CRT,can ya'll see if you can find me one:scratch2: ....Jody WISCOJIM 06-02-2013, 01:53 PM Silly question (I think)...but would the electrolytics still go bad in an unbuilt kit?47'Plymouth would be smart to test them all before building the kit. May save a lot of grief later. 47'Plymouth 06-02-2013, 01:55 PM Yes,I'll install new type caps and not use NOS ones... 47'Plymouth 06-02-2013, 02:02 PM Yes,I'll install new type caps and not use the NOS ones... 47'Plymouth 06-05-2013, 08:00 PM It's located in SAMs 632,..anyone has a scan available? Kevin Kuehn 06-05-2013, 10:56 PM Being it's a series heater string, be cautious that whatever CRT you use has the same heater current draw as the 23BP4. 47'Plymouth 06-06-2013, 08:12 PM I want to thank you for the assistance and to Winsco Jim for the schematic It's been a big help...Dennis told me;the manual did'nt include a schematic But everything else is in the kit!...Jody 47'Plymouth 06-07-2013, 04:16 PM Dennis, sent a text that he got his money for the kit today., and send it out quick ASAP...I'll have pics of it soon laid out,and build soon 47'Plymouth 06-10-2013, 08:16 PM Got a 23ANP4 and wire up maybe differently I wait until have the kit 1st; it will be here Wednesday will have pictures posted ASAP anyone have a diagram of the 23ANP4??..I got a 6.3 vac filament transformer For a separate power supply for the CRT Need to fiqure out the rest of the supply for the tubes WISCOJIM 06-10-2013, 08:54 PM http://frank.pocnet.net/sheets/168/2/23ANP4.pdf 47'Plymouth 06-11-2013, 05:53 AM Thanks,WiscoJim: I like the Slyvania CRT tube pages,it be a big help when the kit arrives tomorrow,..I wonder what yoke type will work,or does it come with a Universal type?. 47'Plymouth 06-11-2013, 10:27 AM Would love to have a sales add for the Arkay Tv kit ,anybody got one! 47'Plymouth 06-12-2013, 08:02 AM Well the Fedex website said was in South Carolina finally will have the Tv kit Delivered this afternoon...just like a big Christmas present!!! 47'Plymouth 06-12-2013, 12:08 PM Just received the Arkay from FedEx and will have photos of it ASAP.
