Hi folks! It's been awhile since I've been on the forum. I might have an opportunity to purchase a 27" Panasonic Tau widescreen TV. I heard these sets are great performers. Is it justifiable to spend the $50 on it? I'd like to use this set in my bedroom. Any thoughts on this?

Regards.

Here's a couple of pics if that helps. I'm wondering if i'm going to be able to manage this lug around this set myself.....:scratch2:

I really like my Tau, but it is very heavy. It's the 32" non-widescreen version and it's 161 lbs I think. http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/CT-32SL13?t=specs

I believe yours would be 100 lbs. Here are the specs: http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/CT-27HL14?t=specs

Definitely an uncommon set. It was one of the first, last, and only CRT HDTVs made before consumer preference for rear projectors and flatscreens asserted itself.

I have the 34" bigger brother (got it cheap as an ex-floor model circa '03-'04) and it's worked well for me. The two caveats are that it predates 720P being a standard which makes it difficult to use with game consoles (it has 480I/480P/1080I plus NTSC) and the inputs are exclusively component, which is starting to become hard to find on new equipment. But it makes a gorgeous 1080i picture off DirecTV or Blu-ray.

And yeah, it's easily a 2-man job to lift the thing.

I think I finally found the exact model in your photograph: CT-26WC15 / CT-26WX15.

Here's the owners manual: http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/CT30WX15N.PDF

I have a 20" with DVD player, and my Mom has a 27" with DVD and VHS decks built in. They both have worked flawlessly, the 27 since 2005 and the 20 a bit older. Nice size and great picture, and zero problems. I would say the 27 gets about five hours use per day, and my 20 is used only once in awhile.
