I need to gauge interest in new made 7" aluminized CRT's for the 621, it would be built by RACS out of existing stock of new glass bulbs. If this sounds like something you would like, post up and list a price you would expect to pay for such an item. If there is sufficient interest, a run may be carried out.

Would these be built using a correct 7DP4 gun with the high voltage Electrostatic focus? I assume it will be a straight gun needing no trap in any case?

I already have one of the GL-4592 substitutes but if a more accurate sub (length & focus voltage) was possible I might be interested.

$200 + Shipping might be do-able for me, depending on how much shipping is of course.

The gun would be from RACS stock, I think he said focus typically comes from the B+ supply of 400 or so volts. Same thing with the 10FP4 clones; the 10BP and FP4's are magnetically focused, where the new guns are electrostatic. Small price to pay, IMO. I don't know what would need to be done with the chassis to make something like that work, maybe it's a big deal maybe not. Just trying to get a feel for it, if it's something we need or not.

A new replacement for 7 and 8 inch electrostatic tubes would be welcome also.

I second this!

A while back, a large quantity of General Electric type GL4592 7" alumimized CRTs was discovered at Fair Radio Sales (50 or more). These turned out to be good mechanical and electrical replacements for the 7DP4. Fair Radio was selling them cheap, and word spread quickly, and the collecting community snapped them up. The event my suppress the demand for a 7DP4 replacement.

Please stay on topic, I'm not here to talk about static CRT's only 621 replacements.

I think you may be right.

If I didn't have one of the GL tubes already I'd be very excited about the possibility of getting a new tube, as it is I'm kind of in the position of saying if you need one more to make a viable order and the price is right I'll take one for possible future use.
Who knows, I may get another 621 some day and need one.

My 621 has an intermittent tube. I have a lead on another tube, but it is uncertain. Therefore I would probably be interested in a new tube, depending on price. I'd probably be willing to spend up to about $350.

While considering this, do you think an aluminized 16AP4 could be slipped in?

I poked the 16A thread to put it on top of the stack and keep the discussions separate. See you there...
