Surfing through YouTube I had the pleasant surprise of finding this old ad that shows a TV that I have in my collection - my TV is the one named "personal" in the ad:

Neat! Thanks for the link. I'd like to see a kid lug around my 8" Admiral portable from 1958. It must weight at least 30 lbs.

That's great!

That set is very light, maybe because they left out the quality.
Truth is it's lighter in part because of the unique CRT they used, it's made of thin blown glass (Pyrex?) and it doesn't have the thick heavy face that conventional tubes do. That CRT was a disaster with GE having to replace almost all of them under warranty, it's rather hard to find one with a good CRT today.

It's pretty obvious the set they used in this film is a prop to make it even easier for the girl to carry, the CRT looks very flat when in reality those sets have a very rounded CRT and safety cover.

Bob, here's an ad for that Admiral, I have the Two Tone green one just like the one shown.

There is a Portillo's restaurant(the place looks like a giant blue jukebox) near Elmhurst Il. that has both the 8" and 14" GE portable TVs as decorations among many other vintage electronics.
