Picked up a 1985 Olympus model VC-105 with the matching VR-208 power supply and tuner unit... Never seen one like it.. The VTR is a VHS stereo 4 head deck and the tuning has all kinds of in's and out's which is a plus...

This appears to have been a Camera unit too originally. It has a multi-pin female port labeled Camera. Also there are adjustments for camera settings. No camera or battery pack included, but the tuner/input selector block is functional and the transport plays and records pretty well...

Anyone?

I've had two similar units to that (though the brands escape my memory). Those units did use separate cameras, and were popular until camcorders were introduced.

I vaguely remember an uncle of mine having this same unit with the brand GE.... This one's made in Japan...
some interesting features on this 1 include separate tracking for slow-motion mode, a dubbing button, a thin/normal tape switch, and remote control.
I found a site where I can buy the camera if I wanna...but I probably won't.

This unit was probably available under several brands, as Olympus would have just been a rebadged version. The camera jack will be a standard 10-pin one, and any of the VHS-maker-brand cameras would work.

Thanks for that info, Chris.
been using the composite inputs for another camera. The VHS records well enough but the playback of tapes made on another machine throws the tracking off a little. no biggy. since i love old stuff Its nice to have a tracking knob rather than pushbuttons.
p.s., ive got a shorting plug in 1 of the rca audio input jacks to squelch the white noise. I then turn the receiver's sound level to about halfway so i can hear any sporadic bursts of sound.

Does it look like this? If so it was made by Panasonic, marketed under about a half-dozen brands.

Yep, extremely similar to that unit , Ed. Except the bottom part is different on mine.

They also had a docking tuner power unit the VCR sits on top of, slides back and mates with a plug and locks in place. Press a button on top to release VCR. Is that the one you have?

yep, you've just described the exact unit I have. Not a bad little tape-deck!

I think the top is similar to the top of mine, but I haven't seen it for awhile.

The good news is that the batteries are still widely available. Inexpensive, at that.
and I could conjure-up a camera or two someplace, I'm sure.
Have always been around Panasonic so i'm not surprised it was a wellknown unit.

That portable VCR in the 1983 brochure looks like a PV-6000. It was linear stereo. There was a mono version PV-5000 too. Those were the portables before the PV-8000 (not hi-fi) and the PV-9000 (hi-fi stereo).
