View Full Version : Schematic for Philco 49-1240, Code 123?

I recently picked up this funky little Philco 49-1240. It has a 12LP4 CRT and its label says it's a Philco 49-1240, Code 123.

The Sams manual (92-5) claims to cover 49-1240, Code 124. I am noticing a number of differences between my chassis and the schematic.

Does the code number -- 123 vs. 124 -- indicate a different chassis? Should I look somewhere else for a schematic? I can probably muddle through regardless, but it's nice to have a manual that matches.

The codes correspond to chassis changes, if I remember correctly. Same thing happened to me when I was working on my Philco, I didn't have the right schematic but was able to figure it out anyway.

Yes, different chassis, I had years of frustration with a spilt chassis Philco because I had the schematic for the wrong code.

"How different can it be" yeah right...:D

Yah, I thought I'd be methodical for a change, so I went through the schematic and parts list, noting which caps I had on hand and making a list of things to order. Then I looked under the chassis and got one of those big question marks over my head like a cartoon character.

I'll just read the values off the old caps and replace what I find. Who knows, maybe it will be one of those easy sets that just sits up and barks after a basic recap (ha-ha, famous last words).

I have the Philco Service manual books for 1948 - 1952 and I'll scan the 1240 if you need it.
