Oh how my heart melts for a big ol' gal with a tiny screen. Wonder if they'll be any takers at $800.

Methinks he's a TAD high at 8 big 'uns. But yeah, I think I could easily find a warm corner somewhere in my humble abode/TV museum for it...

A big ol' gal without any Knobs would be kind of a letdown.

A picture of a different 7 inch Philharmonic on radiolaguy site.

I have a 7 inch Majestic also similar to this.

Yeah...But just think...In late '47 or early '48, you would have been the Talk of the Town if you had either one of those things..."Have you been over to the Geigers' on Circle Drive ? They have one of those new Television things..."

I think it could go for a lot more than $800.

The innards look like a Teletone TV-149 (http://www.vintagetvsets.com/teletone149.htm) so the knobs are probably common RCA Peanuts, even if they aren't correct who's gonna know since it's nearly a one of a kind set.

The seller doesn't mention whether the set works or not, but that's beside the point because any TV that's over 60 years old, as this one is, probably doesn't work -- that well or, more likely, at all. This TV will need the usual recapping, rewiring and cleaning of the controls and tuner, as with all antique/vintage TV or radio, before its new owner even thinks of plugging it in. It is definitely not in plug-and-play condition; anyone who dares to try to use this set as is will likely be greeted by smoke, sparks, maybe even fire ... and there's $800 down the drain.

Wonder if it uses a 7JP4, or some weird oddball 7"-er ? 7JP4s are bad enuff to find nowadays, much less some oddball...

With any luck the original owner didn't use the TV much since larger screens came out right away, and if they could buy a giganticus like that, they probably sprung for a stand-alone console TV in a couple of years and used the big'un for radio and records. I guess all this means maybe the tube is good!

I have a Teletone TV-149 and it uses a 7JP4.
I hope somebody wins this console and restores it to it's original glory. Whenever I first spy these beautiful ol' console sets I imagine them fully restored and displaying a football game in my living room.

Then reality quickly returns and I acknowledge to myself the fact that THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO MORE ROOM in my living room.

Well, it does say:

THE TV CHASSIS IS A TELETONE ELECTROSTATIC TV-149 TYPE

So you may be on to something. :D

Well so it does, I was going by the knob layout but maybe I read that and it stuck in my subconscious, or my unconscious. :D

These sets show how cheap cabinetry was back then. This was a bottom of the line console, for those who couldn't afford a RCA, Philco or Admiral 10 or 12 inch.

The Philharmonic cabinet is a beauty compared to my Viewtone 7 inch console plywood cabinet.

Good call. Maybe an edit of your thread when the auction is over for a final price if it ends up with a bid or two.
