hi folks....I've had this console Zenith"Sutton"console for the past 5 years
found it in a trashpile..going from work while living in Denver,Colorado back then
the original 21YP4 was busted..found another NIB this year..thanks to Philco Don...replaced the E- caps and afew missing tubes on the chassis..haven't replaced the regular caps yet underneath...I've powered up on the variac
got excellent B+ voltages..checked the Fly no burn out..all of the windings in it has the ohm readings correct...did find R94 @ 9.95 instead of the normal 12K ohms @ 3 watts..between the 6BQ6 and 6AX6 plate resistor is this bad one or not?...still no raster...audio is wonderful..that means the tuner and IF and RF stages are functioning...i don't have a fly/yoke tester nor a Scope..to see
if either is a dud...Any suggestions:scratch2:please

Do you have a way to validate if you have high voltage to the CRT anode? One quick way I used a long time back, (aside from listening for the high frequency whine) is to put your forearm perpendicular to the front of the CRT face about a 1/4" away. If you have HV, it will make your arm hair stand up. This may not work with CRT's with lower anode voltage, high humidity locations, (or if you have no arm hair), but may help otherwise in a pinch.

Thanks Bear...
I've got a recent Pacemaker/Diffibulator install
and don't won't too blow the chips in my new medical device in my chest
tried to borrow a HV anode tester from a local TV shop to no avail
said he could'nt spare it..just have to buy one somewhere? none around to borrow for a few minutes.....just have to wait till i come up with one:yes:

does anyone have a new 12K ohm@ 3 watt resistor to spare??:scratch2:

Where are you located? I may be able to lend one out.

You did it backwards...

Bet a dollar to a donut the horizontal oscillator isn't running. Old caps must be replaced. I typically do the old PIO/wax caps first, then worry about the 'lytics after I am able to determine the chassis is workable.

Try holding the ungrounded blade of a well insulated plastic handle screwdriver to the cap of the HV rectifier tube (1B3?) you should be able to draw a decent sized arc from it if there is HV, that at least tells you that there's HV to the cap of the tube but not for sure it's reaching the CRT.

Did you put the Ion Trap on the neck of the CRT? If your original one had the neck broken off you might be missing this part.

It's a color set. No ION trap.

Not according to the CRT number it isn't. 21YP4

Hi all
and yes Spock its a B&W set:yes:...found a incorrect tube 6AG7 instead of a correct 6AQ7..old techy goof up..years ago...will try the well insulated screwdriver trick..hopefully have a new 6AQ7 by Friday...it has a possible bad
out of value 12K@3 watt plate resistor..does anyone a new resistor to spare
its R94 located between the HO and damper according to the Sam's schematic..it measures @ 9.95 ohms instead of 12K ohms:scratch2: i wonder would that also throw off the correct voltages:scratch2:
and yes the ion trap is missing do anyone of you have a spare..the original disappeared long time ago:thumbsdn::yes:

If the trap is missing and the tube is supposed to have one you won't get anything on the screen until you replace it.

You might be able to get something by running a small magnet around the neck of the tube and seeing if the screen lights up

I should be able to dig out a spare trap. There were different types but I think that would just be a single pole permanent magnet type. Once mounted, you have to have it in just the right place. 1/2" off can give you a completely dark screen.

Anyway, send me a PM with your address, if interested.

Thanks Bryan;
it arrived in today's mail...the ion trap..have already mounted it on the CRT's neck it wasn't a tight fit after all..:thmbsp:
