hi all, just how critical would it be to use a 470 ohm 5% in place of 470 ohm 20% or would it matter where in the circuit its going. because the resistors,2of them would be in the horizontal circuit, wired to the hot socket. the old resistors are showing 570 ohm and with a low hv condition im trying to find reasons for this hv problem and the resistors are number one, maybe they did not drift enough but dont know.this set uses 2 hot in paralle and each has a resistor on each.

Tighter tolerance is okay. A 20% resistor was only used because it was cheap.

do you know anything about tube testers? like why all of a sudden the short light shows all tubes with a short, i had recapped it and some resistors and the very cap that is responsible for the short light it self. it worked fine when i did all of this but now this is happening as well as the gas test, the needle stays up and wont drop with a known good tube.

You may have made an error in your efforts. Recheck your work.

Having said that, there is no substitute for understanding the circuit, why it works, what it's supposed to do, and so on. Armed with that knowledge you should actually be able to design such a circuit. Then you look at the diagram and see where the parts are and what the voltages should be. Then you go in and make measurements, looking for a reading that doesn't make sense. You are now on top of the problem. Standard troubleshooting techniques.

Don't expect someone to say 'oh I had that exact problem and solved it by escolining the framistam.' Not that this couldn't happen, of course...

ok true but it did work fine for a year but then things started happening, so ill recheck again.
