My flyback in my CTC-16 burned to a crisp today. It was on its last legs anyway. A lot of the wax left it a while ago. The cathode current was about 200ma so not too much. Just died of old age. Anybody have a Thordarson replacement number? My Sams has no cross reference at all. RCA pt Number is:
115843(906160-502). I have a guy local that may have one. Thanks in advance.

There are two RCA part numbers for CTC16 flybacks - 113992 and 115843. The later chassis used the 115843 and a 2AV2 for the focus rectifier. If you have the 1V2 for a focus rectifier, it's a 113992.

I have an early 16, and looked for a 115843, only to have a 113992 fall in my lap locally. FLY278 replaces both numbers, and I imagine the only real difference is the winding for the filament of the focus rectifier....

Check your chassis suffix - you may need the 113992, like I did.

The instruction say to add a resistor for the 1v2. I think it was a 4.7Ω. You can sub most any rca style roundy fly in there if you want to take the time to figure it out. Its not to hard to change, the worst part is where the metal tab is pushed over the filament leads in the back.

I installed the used one I had. same part number(115843 later style). Back to working. Current draw is about 195ma. Thats the best I can get out of it. Now I have to converge the whole thing again! AAHHHRRRGGG! Cant get the picture centered very well but I'll look into that later. pics to come when my camera battery is charged up.

Another simple option would be to use a 2AV2 or a 1V2 focus rectifier, depending on which transformer you have at hand.

It would be interesting to pull the tire off, coat it with silicone then put in in a chamber and pull a vacuum on it then apply some pressure to force the silicone down into the doughnut. <run on sentence>

That would be ammusing to watch, and the reactions of your family would probably be ammusing too.

That looks like a typical case of the outer rubber cover breaking down and causing an arc from the plate cap to the core. You'll probably find that the rubber has become conductive.
That's a little depressing. Any idea what that material is, exactly?

Very sorry to hear about that.
I had this happen to a CTC12 30+ years ago. I pulled off the rubber flyback jacket because it had started arcing. I coated the tire with GC's "corona dope", which is a brush-on red coating. It stopped the arcing and it seemed to run cooler. Still works :thmbsp:

I doped a GE portacolor fly with the corona dope too. That was a long time ago! Stuff was weird but it worked....
