It's going to be a couple of months before I get out to the mid-west to get it but I thought I would re-post pictures of the set before any restoration begins. The cabinet definitely has some ruff spots, missing or damaged veneer but it should be a fun project for this Fall. It will make a nice addition to my projector collection " I'm so excited!" :D I also like that it has a triple band radio. This will have a beautiful rebirth someday soon!

Thank you so much Keith!!!

That'll be a good looking set when you're done with it!

Should be a fun and challenging project.

SteveWord to the wise: Take VERY detailed, closeup pictures of the bottom of that radio chassis from as many angles as possible before you begin work on it. Lead dress, lead position, as well as the position of many of the components relative to each other and the chassis itself is critical! Be careful when working with or around L9, the FM oscillator coil. It's a small, hollow tubular coil, with an enameled copper wire for the oscillator filament running through the middle of it. Very easy to cause a break in the enamel and cause a short to the outer copper tube.

John Folsom and I both agree that this is one of the most cantankerous and confounding radio's one will ever encounter!

I've made much progress on the case in the last several months, I'm very pleased at the results. Here are pictures of the restoration. I'm going to start on the electronics soon. I hope to have this set running by Christmas.

Now you HAVE to do the electronics even better than new to match that beautiful cabinet. Good On 'Ya Mate!

After: The odd discoloration in the speaker grill is the overhead light in the room casting a shadow from the radio door.
The radio is missing an knob. Does anyone have a spare knob they would like to sell me? PLEASE!!

The nipper logo is back lighted when the radio power is on, also each band of the radio has it's own light so as you sellect
different bands the back-light will switch row by row. I can't wait to see this effect on the first power up!
