On vacation I spotted one like this but in a "Chinese" cabinet with doors. The price was something outrageous, like $800. It is in eastern KY, if somebody wanted to try and negotiate. I've never had a S-C TV but from what I've seen of their radios, they must be very nicely built.

I might be able to talk them down. It would be worth it. looks like its in pretty good shape.

I've got an SC portable they are verry nicely made sets. The unitized chassis were a clever idea to facilitate servicing.

There are two companies with the same initials: Stromberg-Carlson, famous for radios and televisions and out of the TV business by 1960 or so; and Setchell-Carlsen, unrelated as far as I know, that made some radios and was well known for the unitized modular tube TV sets. They were around in the consumer electronics biz until about 1970 and much longer in the industrial side of things.

Stromberg-Carlson completely dropped out of the consumer electronics market not long after the introduction of the FM-MPX standard in 1961. One of their last products was a solid-state MPX decoder for their console tuners.

I have a Stromberg Carlson 1950 model 16" round tube console without doors. I'm dreading working on it because it's a stacked chassis, and, you absolutely HAVE TO remove the picture tube!
16GP4.
But, I'm glad I have the set.
I have a 1953 21" rect. model in Chinese painted cabinet I wish I could get parts for.
