Here's a trivia question:

I've been watching classic music videos lately online
as MTV and VH1 forgot how to do this.:rockon:

Beastie Boys "You Gotta Fight" classic music video shows a rare Trinitron getting trashed. Is this Trinitron the first or second model ever made? Looks like a metal grill above a single tuner knob in a wood cabinet? I watched a low def. version of video. A dvd copy would be ideal to freeze frame video to check tv, some dvd players have a zoom in feature too. Please reply.

The ideal response would be someone here in this forum with same tv knowing model # and year made w/ a set in their collection showing a picture of set.

Here' a picture of it, it's obviously had the CRT aired out prior to getting hit with the pick ax, there's a spot in the center of the screen.

Here's a Website with a picture of one like it:

And it looks like a 1210U, the first model sold in the U.S. according to this Site. http://www.rwhirled.com/portacolor/Sony-1210U.htm

It's funny they picked a set which is rare and unseen today. I guess minimal value and common then, most likely a thrift store find--- for a cheap prop to demolition

Does anyone in this forum ACTUALLY have this set??

I had that set 6-7 years ago. The CRT was near dead when i got it, and rejuvenating it did not help it at all. It was an instant on set for sure. Despite that the chassis still worked with all original parts including the 3AT2 like the set in the link has. I played alot of N64 on that set during my off study time. The green gun finally gave out and I let a friend have it. Not sure what became of it, but he wasn't the kind to destroy old things.

That's a KV-1210U if it has a wood case (or a 1200U if black plastic). Not the first, and not particularly valuable, thank Goodness. In fact when that video was made, it was "too new & valuable as a good used set" to be trashed. It's about 1970-71 model.

I'm interested in finding that set, a dead crt is OK.

after viewing the video a couple of times, they used a tv where the crt went to air it appears. The middle of crt a dark spot in center, explaining they just used a non functioning tv. Just thinking about it, crt was probaly evacuated on purpose for safety reasons when they smashed it for stunt. I have never heard of a sony crt going to air. Music video is still coool!
