I came across an ebay listing for NOS older style cheater cords on ebay.

They are made by Belden and at $3.50 each plus shipping, appear to be a good deal. The picture with this listing is not very good, but they looks like the older, non-polarized cord type.

Cheers,

Better make sure that these are the old type for old sets. Many of the black one I have seen are for polarized sockets. I am suspicious when the cords are not brown in color.

I just ordered 3 from the guy. I'll report back when I receive them.

I'm pretty sure they will show up brown. They look brown to me, but possibly bad lighting in the picture. I don't see the normal Belden part# on them, but possibly they are OEM stock.

I think this is a standard Belden non-polarized cord. Surely someone asked the seller if they were non polarized?

I think you are correct. Looking at the plug prongs that go in the wall outlet you can see they are both the same size. If this was polarized, one prong would be wider than the other.

That didn't last long. All 100 are sold.

Good point. For some reason the wall plug end never crossed my mind. Must be brain freeze, was -20 here this morning.

Isn't the green goo a product of a reaction between the copper of the wire and the plasticiser of the vinyl insulation? I found it real common with cords on older electric clocks.

He's put up another batch :) Search for "Belden cheater cord".

That's great news. Just out of curiosity, where do you read the date code on these?

It got mine too and they are very nice. I tried to order a second batch, but he's out :(

Funny. I started this thread after I bought a batch of 10. Seems everyone else got them delivered first! Mine arrived today.Fortunately, they were exactly what I was looking for.

Incidently, I did not ask the seller for more information. I simply scrutinized the photograph and saw the unpolarized plug. On ebay, sometimes you're lucky and sometimes you're not.

Not right now. He accepted my order for 6, but ended up refunding it because he's out.
