Meanwhile, this pristine Admiral Playmate with box, in working condition, $5 minimum, closed with zero bids.

Not really collectable, but still cute.

I almost got it to watch in the shop, then remembered, duh, I have a house full of TVs. Surely I can make room for one of them out there :)

This sale ended just a few days ago, for a realistic price:

I had actually posted a link to it before, toward the end of the "smallest tube portable" thread, in the "rectangular tube &ss" forum.

Keep looking they turn up.

I missed that one
29.99 that's way more realistic than 450
I would have been happy to go past the $30.00 bid
Other than the antenna missing in was in nice shape .

It's strange how there are more of the late 50's metal cabinet portable sets show up for sale than these .
I wonder how many get junked rather than resold being that they aren't as collectable .

Is the case on these really bakelite?

Phil Nelson

No. Bakelite doesn't fade like that.

Only the Bakerlite fades. :D

Bakelite just gets all grainy on the surface with to much sun exposure.

I didnt think it was bakelite! its always good to question the "experts" on ebay.

I just noticed that the trim is also missing from the right side .
By the look of the fading it fell off recently.

For sure it is missing the right trim piece, I would not offer him more than about $25 for the set. It would not look too bad painted with red paint, I suspect that a decent shade could be found. Years ago, I had a red one that was missing a knob, so I painted one from a cream color set, found a decent match red in a hobby store that worked fine!

Worst he can do is say no!
Perhaps link this thread, the seller may really have no idea, and has started very high thinking he can always come down. Of course, it will never sell for anything close to $450, it would be a shame if it just got trashed!

Thanks everyone for posting it up .
I emailed the seller to see if he would ship it without the stand .
I would much rather leave that horrid stand in California , most likely alot cheaper also ....
