View Full Version : Antique 1940-50's Zenith Transistor TV-Rare
bandersen 01-04-2011, 04:41 PM Wow! it uses those new fangled transistor bulbs
It looks similar to a 1956 Y2256E or Y2672E. Maybe someone can save this set from a cruel fate ?
This is on of the first TV's that used the Transistor bulbs and will be great for an antique piece or I thought a Great idea for A FISHTANK ,
would be really cool! TV works! and i have extra pics of the bulbs lighting up.

DaveWM 01-04-2011, 05:18 PM I mind is a terrible thing.
I hope someone here can save it.
wa2ise 01-04-2011, 06:14 PM Does it use an 1N34 for the video detector? But that's still not a transistor bulb... :D
GeorgeJetson 01-04-2011, 07:43 PM No wonder this set doesn't work,it's full of light bulbs!

DaveWM- I've made that statement for years- never heard anyone else but it fits many situations. We had one customer at the shop I worked for years ago who even after several attempts at an explanation could not understand why his TV gave off heat….This particular customer's TV had what he referred to as a "pitcherbub". Wonder if he writes CL descriptions?

HadYourPhil 01-06-2011, 12:21 PM If you plant those transistor bulbs, do you get transistor flowers??
Bill Cahill 01-06-2011, 01:42 PM No, but, if you plant them, and, water your ground to soggy, it will become "Solid state". Ha!!!!:D:lmao::lmao::lmao:

JoeNewberry 01-06-2011, 02:50 PM You can chalk up the Transistor bulbs to a lack of understanding, but what's the excuse for encouraging wholesale mutilation? They excitedly say the TV works, right after suggesting you should turn it into a fish tank. Right, gut the working vintage TV so you can make a tacky aquarium.

Usually, when they say an antique "works" that means that a pilot light lights up. Or some other condition where about 1% of the original functionality still functions, and 99% doesn't. :thumbsdn:

Username1 01-07-2011, 08:38 AM Funny to hear people describe things when they have limited knowledge of stuff like that. If you ever worked in any repair field, part of the fun is in the description on the ticket, or listening to people tell you in person what it was doing. I remember picking sets out of order if the description of the problem was so good I just had to see it do that right now!!! One good one was of a set that had bad horizontal sync, the ticket said something like " when it warms up the picture starts to spin to the right, and then it spins to the left" It was more fun that our shop had a receptionist, non technical, so she would write down whatever the customer said! ............ the good old days.........

Sandy G 01-07-2011, 06:26 PM Sad thing is, that's a reasonably desirable set...

Not sure who coined that but it has always been a favorite. Really gets to the point. ;)
