Wow, this 55 Sylvania chassis looks like a bare bones special!
This must have been their bottom of the line offering for that year.

Did Sylvania ever re-badge sets from another mfg? That thing reminds me of the el-cheapo Crosley "Super V". :thumbsdn:

I couldn't resist looking it up in Sams. Weird, wild stuff. Series-string, of course, with all electrolytics in cardboard tubes like a cheap AA5 radio. A grand total of 16 tubes including CRT, yet it tunes UHF as well as VHF.

It might be interesting to restore one of these Yugos, just to see how well it worked (or didn't).

Haha. It's even got the Gravel Gertie fuse hung on as an afterthought and mounted outboard of the chassis. And not much visible evidence of having had a HV cage/cover.:scratch2: Bill(oc)

The photo in Sams does show a HV cage cover, so I guess someone lost this one. This set may also be missing a few other little bits, although possibly there were variations, as it's described as "511 series" in Sams.

I just pulled out the Sams (263 folder 6) for the 21" Crosley "SuperV" (model G-21TOMH).... Tube layout looks identical to this Sylvania. *

* at least Sylvania put the video if transformers in cans.
