Series-string, of course, with all electrolytics in cardboard tubes like a cheap AA5 radio. A grand total of 16 tubes including CRT, yet it tunes UHF as well as VHF. It's even got the Gravel Gertie fuse hung on as an afterthought and mounted outboard of the chassis. This set may also be missing a few other little bits, although possibly there were variations, as it's described as "511 series" in Sams.
