I found this in the trash last week. I am not really interested in old TVs but I grabbed it because I thought the tubes might be useful. It has 30 of them; all are there except the 10" picture tube.

It looks like the previous owner was in the restoration process. I see a lot of new capacitors. Sadly, he passed away.

I was wondering if it would be possible to create a homebrew audio amp out of this stuff? Or is somebody into these? It seems sad to let this go to waste, but the WAF* is very, very low.

The Audikarma crowd said I should post it here.

I think this model was based on the RCA 630TS Television (http://www.antiqueradio.org/RCA630TSTelevision.htm) (1946)

This is a true RCA clone and could be subbed into any 630 set. I had an RCA once with a Crosley chassis, they are that close. May have been actually built by RCA? Bound to be someone out there who can put it to good use. They can be adapted to nearly any size picture tube, for what it's worth.

I am currently working on a 630 chassis and may be interested in it for parts :)

Any pics? I cant see the ones on AK

Parts, hell -- that one may be better than the set you're working on :)

Seriously, someone already put some effort into it.

Hehehe good point, heck the cabinet may be better than mine :D

Mine is working minus horizontal sync. not all caps were done and thats where im at.

It has the blonde cabinet and ide like to change that..

But i do have a 10BP4 in the garage, so it could see life again :)

If anyone is willing to take this off his hands but can't for a bit, I would be willing to pick it up and store it for you. I wouldn't want to see this trashed or parted out if there are people out there that could restore it. I live about 30 miles from where it says he is located in Harrison City, PA and I have a large attic where I can store this. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Here are more of the pics that I posted on audiokarma.org. For some reason I am not able to upload attachments here.

It's a lot to ask, but if you could drop it in a box and ship it I can finish restoring it.

The reason nobody's volunteered already, is it's expensive to ship. At least $50 maybe $100 (or more). This is break-even or a loss for what the TV is worth. And UPS can't be depended upon not to trash it in shipping, so the risk of it arriving it in pieces is significant. Most of us TV collectors deal locally, or within 100 miles maybe. The guys here who want it just can't reasonably go get it. But we would all feel the loss if you strip it or junk it.

I think you like tubes for homebrew amps. I could scrounge up some quality US vintage audio tubes to make it worth your while. Some 12AX7's or 6BQ5's perhaps. I've picked up a few nice brands and types over the years that are too nice to put in antique radio or TV, and that you audio guys consider as collectible as us TV guys consider the Fada. I think we could make a trade that pleases us both and injures neither.

Let me know if interested. You'll probably have to move this conversation to the classifieds to stay within the rules.

Actually i love fadas, I wanted one but settled on the RCA after i missed a few on the bay. ide sacrifice this RCA to get it going if it was in decent shape. Guess i was under the impression it was pre- stripped before i saw the pics

Anyhow, still interested... :)

Boobtubeman asked first and the protocol on this forum is to give him dibs.

I have a Telefunken ECC83, Two Amperex ECC83's (one is a Bugle Boy), an RCA tall black-plate 7025, and an RCA short grey-plate 12AX7A sitting here on my mousepad. All 5 test as new, the graphics on the Telefunken are strong and the graphics on the Bugle Boy are acceptable. These are a big deal on AK. They mean little to me because I don't do high-end audio. Regular six-dollar GE's work just as well in a TV.

If you don't work something out with Boobtubeman they're on the table.

Again, you should list it in classifieds first.

Hey Kbmuri, how far are you from this tv?

Steve

350 Miles. Round trip 12 hours at least. Not acceptable.

The tubes I mentioned will eBay for $150. Seemed like that was a fair offer. No word from him unless he's PM'ing you.

Let me know how it turns out.
