Hey wa2ise, I was just curious about your converter box setup. You said you have two modified to output B&W only. Since your set is already B&W, I figured you must have a good reason for this arrangement. Does sending B&W only signals to your set rather than color signals improve it's performance?

This older B&W set was made before color TV was deployed. So this TV set will provide the full resolution of the NTSC picture, including the color subcarrier. The subcarrier looks like a fine pitch checkerboard pattern slowly crawling up the screen. Later B&W sets low passed filtered the luma to supress the subcarrier. So I turned off the subcarrier at the source, to avoid the crawling checkerboard. The two boxes are the CM7000 by Channel master. Briefly, the mod:
