View Full Version : Info on Auburn Auction?
oldtvman 06-11-2010, 10:31 AM I read in the South Bend Tribune that a collector is auctioning off all his early tv stuff. The auction will be on June 19, 2010. Does anyone have any further info about this. I couldn't find any flyers or listing for the auction.

here is the page I found.
old_tv_nut 06-11-2010, 03:13 PM So, not auctioning individual items? The wording is confusing.

rld-tv01 06-11-2010, 05:34 PM Most of the listings are vague. There are 4-5 image dissector tubes but hard to tell if Farnsworth lab prototype, TV studio camera or industrial camera use. Also the Farnsworth literature is hard to tell if original or photocopies. I was originally going to bid online but decided to drive up there next week for the auction. How much is the plow blade from the plow Farnsworth drove when he invented television worth? :D

I work near there, I can ask an auctioneer about it.

That's only part of it. Here's another catalog: http://www.proxibid.com/asp/catalog.asp?aid=27984&gl=740#740
Anyone know if they'll ship stuff? There's an RCA chair that I'd rather love to have.
Aussie Bloke 06-12-2010, 02:05 AM Wow early camera tubes galore!!! I will be keeping an eye on those, I sure as heck want to win me anything from dissector, iconoscope to image orthicon and perhaps early vidicon. I wonder how many people are dead set wanting to bid on those tubes?

If the auctioneers don't ship, you could ask them to recommend a shipper. I have used Craters & Freighters with good results, although I wouldn't call them cheap.
I have one of those RCA logo chairs. In this photo the lines in the seat are just dents from setting a VCR on it for a while. You can see a row of these chairs in the appliance-store showroom in the movie "That Thing You Do."

Mid-century modern and RCA...gotta love it.
Spinning Head 06-21-2010, 09:27 PM So did anyone bid on or win anything?
I found it surprising that there wasn't any DuMonts in the collection.
Aussie Bloke 06-22-2010, 01:58 AM I would bid if I had a credit card which is a requirement for bidding on Proxy bid.
Aussie Bloke 06-22-2010, 02:03 AM Crikey!!!! That Farnsworth dissector tube went for $175000!!!
