Another thing I don't have room for.

Looks nice, extra chassis too:

I like all that paperwork! In fact, I've never seen the screen banner before. That set insn't exactly in my wish list, but it's nice!

With all those extras, I'd say that's a bargain! Mark 8? That's different. I wonder if they left the safety glass off when the tube was replaced, or for some reason used a clear safety glass. Seems like that one should have more of a green or dark tint to it.

I wish I was closer to CA, I think they would charge extra seating for it on an airplane so I hope someone out there gets it and takes it home.

Mark 8? That's different.

I have an RCA stereo from '63 which is branded a "Mark VIII." I'm not sure of the meaning or ranking among other RCA products back then, but my stereo was one of the more expensive ones.

Also, this set is very similar to my '61 CTC-11 remote set.

Its a thought... Im not a real fan of roundies though. They are a tad before my time but the extra chassis are making me think about it. Also I think 7 consoles is enough.

Are you saying I'm old :sigh: ? Seriously, I think that's why I like them. They're what everybody had in the livingroom when I was a kid, and we didn't have a color set until I got interested in TVs, and got a used Packard-Bell roundie around 1979.

One of us will have to do some research on the Mark series one of these days. Somewhere I have a 2-page magazine spread for RCA from Christmastime. It shows everything from a transistor radio up to color roundie, which is probably a -12. I think it was called a Mark 8. I have a store display for RCA color TV promoting the Mark 10. I also have an RCA 8-track player that is labeled Mark 8.

One thought is that it had to do with how many years RCA had been selling color sets, starting with '54. They might have reverted back to "8" just for the tape players.

Bryan,
Is this the flyer you were talking about?

Great ads, Tony! Mine is very similiar to that one but covers less models. I'll have to dig it out and trying scanning it. Would be neat to have it posted for Christmas, anyhow. Not in too good a shape since it has been bouncing around with me for years. I think mine has Santa in it.

:scratch2: Wait a minute; MARK 8? If they're counting the CTC-2 (CT-100) and CTC-2B (21CT55) as the same chassis, the CTC-12 is the 8th production chassis!!!!

CTC-2 (2B)
CTC-4
CTC-5
CTC-7
CTC-9
CTC-10
CTC-11
CTC-12

***By the way; there IS a CTC-3. Hats of to the first person who can post what it is, and why it's a trick and isn't counted in the list! ("seasoned" color TV history guys please hold back)

I don't know if its still there, but somebody had posted a film of an RCA commercial for the Mark 8 color TV on YT some time back.

The style of that ad was anything but that of the flashy animated New Vista "Wow!" ad.

To keep things off topic, just why did RCA skip some numbers? Were they planned but scrapped? I have read (on here) the story about the CTC-3 but I can't recall now-could it be a sub-chassis for the CTC-2?

I think that the CTC 3 is the convergence board of the CTC2B, but I would like to know why

Thanks, Pete! Lots of great info on there including the CTC-12 story from Andy's TV and the shadow mask issues for CTC-1 which seem to relate to the recent Westinghouse 22" thread.
