My '58 Maggie 17" set uses the same chassis I think... on the front of my Sams, it shows one of those "open the hood" cabinets. However, my controls are on the front. The chassis looks easy to work on, but I've never done anything to mine. I've seen a few 21" long-legged Magnavoxes with controls ontop in a recess, but never seen this flip-up lid. Reminds me of the Emerson 14" portables that looked like record players.
