Kind of interesting, one of my "side hobbies" is studying weather and weather modification (been studying that for 12 yrs or so). I thought it was intriguing that they let us know some of what's going on at least. Not much talk of any of it in mainstream media. http://weblogs.marylandweather.com/2009/09/wallops_rocket_to_release_arti.html
Webcast can be seen here http://sites.wff.nasa.gov/webcast/

Hey, glad you posted this! I've been out of the loop as far as news lately, and this might be interesting to see. We were by Wallops Island a few weeks ago, kinda neat to see those big sat. dishes and such.

Update: The Black Brant XII launch is on schedule for Saturday evening, Sep. 18 between 7:32 and 7:49 p.m. Web cast of the mission will begin at 6:30 p.m.

This is "halfway" between Bryan and me - I used to visit there when I was in the Navy and had to escort young sailors to court in Accomac County VA for speeding. The day was always shot, so I'd show the place to the young'un squids and let them see that Virginia too has a spaceport. Yes the big satellite dishes WERE impressive - until I saw the beast at Green Bank, WV.

I was stationed at Patuxent River MD in 2006 when they were just getting one of the Navy's Global Hawk UAVs - I see Wallops is providing some big-time support for that now.

We're unable to see the rockets from Wallops here in Norfolk - damn horizon kills the view. They don't make much of a trail, so after launch is a no-see as well.

Cheers,

This apparently caused a UFO scare at my job that night. I got to play hero and reassure them.

In college, I got to spend some time on Wallop's Island. When I told my Dad I was going on that trip, he remembered seeing similar cloud-seeding experiments from when he was a kid.
