jeyurkon 07-01-2009, 07:11 AM It appears to be in nice condition.
There seem to be quite a few sets showing up in Michigan recently. Maybe it's our poor economy.

RDusel 07-01-2009, 01:07 PM Wow, that is a beauty. Wish I was close as well.
Boobtubeman 07-01-2009, 04:29 PM Reminds me of the HOWDY DOODY philco that was bought by a member here. :)

wa2ise 07-01-2009, 04:37 PM My grandmother had one of these in 1951:

Tube TV 07-03-2009, 05:42 AM I like the curves of the cabinet .
The seller doesn't think the channel knobs are original , they look like it to me ?
hposter 07-03-2009, 08:17 AM Yes, the knobs are original. It's the typical soft-plastic knobs and the painted aluminum (?) channel selector.
To Mr. Tube TV...these are actually fairly common. Depending on your location, you should see one of these at a local meet, or on ebay, closer to you, if you keep looking.

Tony V 07-03-2009, 10:11 AM I have the square cabinet version. Although a difficult restoration because of all the bumble bee's, i was rewarded with a nice picture afterwards.

I've been holding off on restoring my 50T-1401 for that reason. Glad you got your working.
stromberg6 07-03-2009, 01:38 PM Has anyone had the tuner in one of these draw excessive current after warmup?
I have a 10", and a 12", and both have this problem. Picture fades to blank raster after about 7 to 10 minutes.

I'd check any caps that are filtering the AGC line. AGC control lines are high impedance, and any leaky capacitors will overwhelm the AGC and cause the tuner and IF strip to cutoff. As you mention excessive current, this cutoff is likely due to the RF and IF stages going fully saturated. AGC voltages are usually negative voltages of a few volts, and more negative voltage reduces gain, and a lower negative voltage gives more gain. 0V would be higher gain, or saturation of the tube amps severe enough to not allow any RF or IF frequency to get thru.
A crude test would be to measure the AGC voltage when the set is first turned on and operating normally, and then watch to see if the AGC voltage changes as the signal gets lost. Then you could impose an external voltage on the AGC line the same as the good AGC line voltage to see if you get reception back.
electroking 07-03-2009, 04:54 PM A pity that the seller appears to be well on his way to parting out this
set. The question from a potential buyer 'just wanting the cabinet to
display in a nursing home' is appalling. Let's hope this finds a good home.
stromberg6 07-03-2009, 09:25 PM Thanks for the suggestion wa2ise. I'll do just that.

Appalling in another way too - I can see some poor soul trying to turn the knobs, which are glued to the cabinet...
jeyurkon 07-04-2009, 10:41 PM Did anyone here win it?

bandersen 07-04-2009, 10:43 PM There's a similar Philco on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370223949682&ssPageName=MERCOSI_VI_ROSI_PR4_PCN_BIX&refitem=120441440304&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&refwidgettype=osi_widget&_trksid=p284.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%252BC%252BP%252BS%2 52BIA%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%2 6otn%3D4%26ps%3D10).
