That's not really true. Although it's been noted in lots of magazines, and articles that Telemundo was the first one with color T.V., that honor falls in WAPA, Channel 4. I have a collection of vintage TV Guide from 1965-1970, which clearly describes that, since 1966, WAPA was showing some movies and TV series, like Batman, in COLOR. The first local show broadcast in color was Rambler Rendezvous, in 1967. Vilma Carbia was the first local face seen in color on Puerto Rican TV. Also, Criada A La Orden, Velda Gonzalez sequel to La Criada Malcriada sitcom, was also taped in color. Telemundo started color TV from their new Studios in Hato Rey, even though ti wasn't finished. Their first color show was a music special with singer Raphael from Spain. It was on January, 1968. They didn't start broadcasting in color properly 'till April 1968, when they finally moved to their new building...:thmbsp:

WAPA-TV was the second television station to be licensed to Puerto Rico and began broadcasting on May 1, 1954. Its call letters are a partial abbreviation of the station's original owners, the now-defunct Asociación de Productores de Azúcar, or Puerto Rico Sugar Grower's Association. During its earliest years, the station was affiliated with NBC, ABC, DuMont, and the CMQ Television Network.[1]

The station, along with WKAQ-TV transitioned to color in 1968 on NTSC.

I've oft been a fan of that particular color test pattern as opened that WAPA clip. I presume that this TP dated to 1966.

WAPA started with some programs in color first, but WKAQ quickly followed and was the first to have 100% of its programming in color. Now they are in a neck to neck fight to see who is the first to totally eliminate local programming.

Last night there was a great show on WAPA regarding the history of local TV. WAPA was the first to transmit in color. In 1966 they transmited a movie, forgot it's name, which was in color. The new "state of the art" WKAQ building was under construction then, and was finished in 1968, that is when WKAQ started to transmit some programs in color. Both WAPA and WKAQ became two of the top TV stations in the USA, as they were always upgrading to the latest technology, and in the 70's hired top executives, directors, and technicians from stations like NBC and CBS in New York.
