I'm sure a lot of the TV's found by members of the forums have one or two old stickers or tags on em...Of all the ones I've come across, the oldest one seems to be from the late-60s on my portacolor. The phone numbers are a dead giveaway! And also, some of the streets have been renamed in the NYC area.

Only one set I ever found had an out of state tag...a 1973-ish GE color portable which apparently used to live in CT.

Feels like this has potential to be an interesting thread.

Found this tag in my CT-100. Did not see any glaringly obvious evidence of a repair when I was recapping it.

So far, the tvs I have worked on seemingly have had no repairs done to them. I should say vintage repairs as I have two sets that were worked on in the last few years and were given up on by the restorer. I am most impressed with my '55 RCA 21'' KCs96-the cathode on the picture tube is totally roasted, but apart from some tube replacements, absolutely nothing had been replaced on it-potentially thousands of hours without a call to the repair shop, just incredible. Although the tv shop did put a label inside of the back cover-"sold december 10, 1955".

I've seen quite a few of them, particularly on late 40s and 50s B&W sets. On (formerly my) RCA 9-PC-41 projection set, there was a whole cluster of tags. Interesting because of the set's history; belonging to the founder of what's now the Rite Aid Drug Stores. (Mr. & Mrs. H. Borun, Beverly Hills, CA). Some of those tags were from 1949, but none newer than 1951. I guess the Boruns got tired of getting it fixed. I also have a Kaye-Halbert 20" console with a CRT replacement warranty tag for singer Frankie Laine. Sadly, the TV was damaged in my house fire in '88, but I still have it in storage, tag & all. (The 9-PC-41 RCA projection set is alive & well with another collector).

My RCA 630TS has a service tag dated 1953.

This photo was taken before I cleaned the set up :)

This is the real work to know how! a kind of book of coupons cars. So we know who, when and what has been done on TV SET

Good thread! I'll have to start taking photos of all I come across-I know I have a few. My CTC-5, for instance, has 3 or 4 tags. I was able to trace its original home to a neighborhood on the north side of Philly. My CTC-12, as a coincidence, lived just miles away from its older brother.

Lots of stereo gear I come across, tubed stuff in particular, has a tag either on the bottom plate or inside the chassis somewhere. In my Stromberg Carlson amp, it has an exact date that the pilot lamp was replaced! Kind of funny, IIRC it was in the late 70s, when the amp was already over 15 years old.

And the 25CC50 Zenith set I just came across has a unique-style tag on the back, just a generic from some appliance shop so I don't know what it needed. Seems the shop specialized in television, air conditioners, and hifi! Classic looking 1950's serviceman picture and all.

I have a 1957 Zenith portable with two stickers from two different California shops, one in the north, one in the south, . I bought it locally so it must have spent it's whole life here..

I also found a cigarette butt and some caps that were hanging by leads that were twisted on, not soldered. What a tech huh?
Here is one from my 1965 Zenith part set from Chicago.

Mark, more than half of my TV's have that big Central Service tag on them! I always liked that tag. They must have been the Chicagoland "go to" place for TV's back in the 50's-early 70's. I believe they were also a sales dealer. Lots of my TV's have that tag, but also has a line with the "set up date", and the tech wrote the day the set was delivered to the home and set up as a new or used TV (there was a check box). Looks like that tag is on a zenith back cover. Is it on a set I gave you?

Doug, that's the set that went to Tom in Milwaukee from you, then to Chris, then I picked it up for him and found out almost everything on the chassis was fried, CRT as well. He didn't want to spend the money to have me restore it, I don't blame him either. Now it is my part set. It would have never been worth restoring, sadly.

Wow I wonder if that's Franklin Square, LI, NY? If so that set traveled a good distance to get to you!

That's what I was thinking! I picked it up at an antique mall in Delaware.
