A clueless seller or a malfunctioning TV. I gave my mother one just like this to use in the kitchen. It had a neat tuning system where a green (red for UHF) vertical line would scan across the screen for the next active channel when the channel change button was pressed. Some of these XL100's had a variable cap in the chroma circuit that would cause the color to go out. A simple adjustment usually brought color back.

I had a handheld RCA b&w lcd tv that had the green line for tuning. Neat touch IMO. This TV can;t be more than 20 years old if that, correct?

I have an XL100 like that, but in a normal black/simulated wood case, case itself needs alot of TLC as it's severely damaged. The last owner that had it literally THREW the set in a fit of anger! The amazing thing, is that the CRT and other electronics survived, only needing to solder some broken traces on the CRT socket board, other than that, the set functions rock solid.

PS: Forgot to add, I rescued mine from the curb two towns over, along with a Magnavox B&W that suffered the same fate but with a much worse outcome.

That is definately a color set, I saw those in the stores when I was a kid. It was around 1988. Probably just not functioning correctly like radiotvnut said.
