Does anyone have any info on it, year, solid state or tube, etc...

No, I really don't think it's from the 40's.......

It is solid state. Could be a late Chromacolor II from about '79; but, probably is a System 3 type set from the early '80's. They say it needs a picture tube and they are starting the bidding at $5 with an unknown reserve (probably $49.99). Just another seller that thinks they've got something that they don't.

When I say System 3 type chassis, I'm talking about the chassis that uses a 9-160 power supply board. These were made from about '79 and '82.

I think this is a System 3 set as well. There was a 23" inline system 3 picture tube made....based on what I've heard it is a lot more failure prone than the delta gun tube. I have one of these inline 23" models I found dumped by the railroad tracks and the crt is still good...has some intermittent problems on the chassis though.

I'd have to think system 3 too especially since I've never seen a Chromacolor2 with a bad picture tube(except for the ones with the capacitor problems and the high voltage going crazy).

1940's!
Where do these people get their information??
Have they not heard of Google?
There's probably a tag on the back with the date of manufacture!

I did very nicely write the seller and tell them that that set is not from the 1940's. Lets see if anything happens.

Who knows, the picture tube may not really be bad. Many people think that when the screen does not light or the set has no vertical deflection; then, it's the picture tube.

The description has been changed a little. I just sent a friendly message to let them know this is from the late '70's or early '80's.

well , that definitly, positivly aint no 50s or 60s set . I know that set well becuase my dad bought the exact same set brand new in 1979 . Surprised that it went through two picture tubes becuase that set was a pretty reliable set and went forever . We retired it in 1999 and it was still working , wound up getting donated to a poor family through our church . I dont know what kind of reserve he set on that set , however i dont think they are collectable . Here in NJ , YOU CANT EVEN GIVE THEM AWAY !!!!!!!! A fellow last year out in pittsburg,pa offered a bunch of those 80s zeniths set for free and there were no takers and they wound up going to a dumpster .

Those still show up pretty often in thrift stores, and garage sales. Nice working sets! Not to make waves, but I don't think it's a Sys III... It looks like the very last Chro II chassis.

It's definitely a 23" tube, and I don't remember if there was a 23" inline or not.

Zenith did make some 23" sets using an inline tube with the System 3 type chassis. I've seen the Chromacolor II as well as the System 3 chassis housed in this same style cabinet, knobs and everything. The newest CCII I've seen was a 23" console from 11/79. That one did not have "chromacolor II" or "solid state" stamped on it. It just had "Zenith". I wonder if there were any '80 model CCII's?

I remember seeing those 23" Zeniths at K-mart, as a kid in the 80s and thinking how OLD they looked even then (of course that just made me want one).

I also remember seeing an '82 or '83 model with remote and cable ready tuner that had a 23" tube and the 9-181/9-186 type chassis that replaced the 9-160 style chassis.

I had one of these about 8 yrs. ago. Mine had the remote and was a good working set. It was still working fine when I gave it to a family that had lost everything inm a house fire about 4 yrs. ago. The last time I saw them they were still using it as a daily watcher.
