Does anyone know what an GE flyback #RTO-054 crosses to in a Thordarson, Merit, or other? Thanks!!

Thordarson Fly-5
Merit HVO-10

"Omit original resistor-capacitor network in primary circuit" for both replacements.

Might be an early production/late production thing. I have a book which lists Merit HVO-7 & Stancor A-8130 (with the same footnote Dave mentioned) plus Thordarson FLY-3 w/o footnotes.

Moyer's had one RAM X045 left in stock, which they (like Don) indicated is correct. It's on the way, but now I'm wondering if the network is to remain intact, or if it should be eliminated when using the RAM replacement. Maybe it will have some instructions with it?!?

Speaking of the "capacitor - resistor network", have any of you seen in person what this looks like in a GE810? When I first saw it on mine, I assumed it was something that somebody cobbled together to make an incorrect replacement flyback work. It's a little train of resitors and capacitors soldered together end to end between the fly and the top cap of the 6BG6 and covered in a piece of rubber sleeving. When I got my SAMS and saw in the picture that this is "factory", I couldn't believe my eyes...very strange design.

The Ram flyback paperwork will have notes on anything that you need to change on your set. Glad you found one.

Hmmm.... I double-checked, and my Thordarson-Meissner catalog #61, (May 1956) lists the sub for a GE RTO-054 as a Fly-5 (List price: $12.20). My Merit catalog #408 (1956 "Repl" guide) lists the sub as a HVO-10 (List price: $11.10).

Might, indeed, be a production thing.

Oh, wait, GE with a strange way to save 10 cents on productions costs? No way! ;)

Seriously, GE seems to have done lots of weird stuff, I have an early 50's one that's got these pseudo circuit board things in 'em...

It seems like somebody else had an early GE and had flyback matching problems. The book I used is a generic cross-reference guide from the early 60s that covers about 4 or 5 transformer makers. It lists the Stancor on a seperate line with a production change note but nothing on the others. Odd that the GE number doesn't seem to change.

To muddy the flyback waters (gee, there ought to be a fishing joke there somewhere), my Stancor catalog lists the GE 810 as having the RTO-071 transformer (which crosses with a Stancor A-8130 as Bryan noted). So when I look up the RTO-071 in my Merit catalog, I find that it crosses with a HVO-7 (again, as Bryan noted). So, apparently there are at least two listings for flybacks in the GE 810: the RTO-071 and the RTO-054.

I have the Merit HVO-7 and the Stancor 8130 if that will add to the crossed up cross of the flyback. The RT0-071 still crosses to the Ram X045 in my cross. Its the Ram cross reference that you sent me Dave.
